The 90/180 Rule
Within any 180-day rolling window, non-EU nationals may stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days. The window "rolls" — each day you check, the calculator looks at the previous 180 days.

How it works
The 90/180 rule, distilled
- WINDOWIt's a rolling 180-day window. Every day asks: of the last 180 days, how many were spent in Schengen — not a fixed year or quarter.
- CAPNinety days total. Continuous or split — all Schengen states share one counter (PT and DE go on the same tally).
- RESETEach day out earns one day back. As stay-days fall off the 180-day window, your balance recovers. Fastest full reset = 180 − recent-stay days.
- VISANomad visa stays are separate. Time on PT's D8, ES's DNV, and similar long-stay residence permits doesn't count against 90/180. Watch the seam with tourist days.

How it works
Essentials of the 90/180 rule
- WINDOWThe last 180 days is a rolling window. Each day, your usage in the prior 180 days is recalculated. Not a fixed year or quarter.
- CAPUp to 90 days total. Continuous or split — same counter. All Schengen members are summed.
- RESETEach day out gives one day back. As days drop off the 180-day window, your remaining quota grows.
- VISANomad visa stays are separate. Long-stay residence visas (D8 PT / DNV ES) do not count toward 90/180.
- SCOPESchengen Area (29 countries). Days in any member country are summed into one counter.
